DETOX
DAY
It’s my DETOX DAY today. I chose a Sunday because my
office work is put to rest today.
Wait!!! Neither have I put on weight nor have I eaten
unhealthy foods during lockdown. Then why am I going in for a DETOX. My body
needs to detox, not from the regular
food toxins but from my hard-driven habit of getting addicted to a 6” by
3” gadget by the name “MOBILE”.
So I decided today
to “ detox” myself from the habit of approaching my mobile for a good 12
hours or till such time I can sustain without it. Or probably to give it a
day’s rest( a well-deserved one).
Thankfully it was a Sunday.I did not feel the need to
set the morning alarm on mobile. My body clock got activated.
The first hitch came in when the online delivery of
weekly veggies was to reach my building and the status was always updated on
our whatsapp group. I had no other option but to keep peeping out of my window
to see if the veggies had come.
It was breakfast time and Sunday breakfast was always
different and new from the usual ones. Youtube always helped me to try
something new. Today it was on “DETOX MODE”. So we had to settle in for
something usual for breakfast.
As I kept myself busy in the kitchen, I found my
groceries stock getting exhausted. I was just about to reach out for my mobile
to update my online groceries app cart, but stopped myself.
Suddenly it occurred to me that it was someone’s
anniversary today. Anniversary wishes goes through Whatsapp.
Likewise I had to stop my thoughts of calling my mom,
the laundry guy, my friend, all of which
would make you lift that small piece of electronic marvel which controls you
day in and day out.
As I relaxed after lunch, to list out what I needed to
start my oil-painting, I realized that I have’nt placed the order over Amazon
and my wish-list was still lying in my cart.
Ok.. let me atleast search for a few ideas for my
painting…oh no.. that is where google helps me.
Of late, I had got into the habit of listening to
audio books. That was a strict NO-NO today.
I could not even watch my favourite series/ movie on
Amazon Prime or Netflix today.
It was evening…almost 8 hours into detox. It was my
prayer time. With my mobile playing my usual prayers in the background, I had
learnt a few Sanskrit shlokas during lockdown. Now I decided to recite them
with my books in hand but the rhythm and flow refused to come without my mobile
playing those tunes for me. I skipped my prayers midway and sat down with my
yoga mat only to realise that it was my mobile which used play the instructions
for me. So I did some asanas for name-sake and ended my yoga session abruptly
I now sat down to write my detox experience on to my
diary. My, so called, legible and clear handwriting had gone for a toss. I
realised that I have not touched a pen and paper for years.
MOBILE….the BIGBOSS of our lives, has totally made us
immobile for the past 11 months ever since covid-19 and lockdown started. It
has totally taken over our lives but has kept us alive through the harsh times
of covid. But are we going to reduce our dependability on mobile once Covid
disappears? I do not think so.
The activities listed above are just a few that I came
across on a random day of my life.
Here are few more which every one can relate to. See
how many relates to you.
Online shopping for groceries, dresses, fruits and
veggies , Cooking videos from Youtube, reconnecting with friends and relatives
through Facebook, listening to favourite music, playing your favourite games,
Googling your query about anything under the sky and beyond the skies too,
searching for jobs with Naukri and Linkedin apps, updating yourself with latest
news on NDTV or Republic app, satisfying your taste buds by ordering from
Zomato or swiggy, workout plans with your health apps, booking your cabs from
OLA and UBER app, payment of all utility bills
from banking app on your mobile, checking your emails and official mails,
Zoom calls and Teams meet on the official front ….the list goes on, if each one
of us shall keep adding from their experience.
But a few things that a mobile can’t assist you in are
the physical kitchen work, sweeping, mopping, washing vessels and washing
clothes, bathing, eating and sleeping though it keeps giving you tips here and
there to ease off these never ending works at home.
Does all this sound like “EXORCISM” of driving out the
Mobile Keeda within you? Well then, try documenting your experience and you
shall realise that we all are sailing in the same boat.
